Landscape Architect / Designer

Job Status: Full-time

Overview: Under the direction of the owner of CityEscape, this person provides design development, project coordination, contract administration/project management and financial performance.  Work with clients and project team to effectively communicate throughout the project development/design process.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Prepare concepts, design development and graphic presentation illustrations on projects
  • Prepare site plans, specifications and cost estimates
  • Ability to lead projects through all phases.
  • Consult with product manufacturers, evaluate and select construction materials
  • Assist in editing technical specifications and reviewing shop drawings
  • Visit sites to gather information, review design intent, inform and support senior project team members during the construction phase
  • Use in depth knowledge of trees, shrubs, ground covers, perennials, and annuals in preparing planting plans and landscape master plans
  • Participate in the establishment and management of project budgets and schedules
  • Seek new work through marketing or participation in presentations
  • Participate in business development and sales initiatives
  • Provide strategic recommendations on projects
  • Understand of City of Chicago permitting process and procure permits as required
  • Collaborate with the project managers on current and future projects
  • Produce realistic estimates and receive feedback from production on adherence to budgets to bring jobs in at desired profit rates
  • Assist in preparation of RFP submissions
  • Create standardized presentation package

Job Requirements: 

  • A bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture or equivalent
  • Minimum 5-8 years of professional experience
  • Landscape Architectural registration preferred
  • Demonstrate exemplary knowledge of landscape terminology, plant materials, applicable construction materials and coordination in design
  • Proficiency in current design software including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Lumion and the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Working knowledge of project management software
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with City Escape employees, vendors and clients on a consistent basis
  • Ability to work in a team environment, including taking direction and constructive feedback from team members as well as providing feedback to other team members.

  • Ability to deliver quality results under tight deadlines
  • Demonstrate a commitment to self-development and continuing education
  • Demonstrate accountability to work being performed and completed on schedule
