Tropical Houseplant Specialist

Job Status: Full-time

Overview: Under the direction of the owner of City Escape, the Tropical Houseplant Specialist shall provide professional advice on the selection, ordering and care of the Tropical Trees and Plants in our Garden Center.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Meets annual sales goal as jointly established by City Escape and your manager
  • Maintains annual shrink percentage of 2% or less and documents loss on Shrink Tracking Form
  • Communicates product concerns as they arise, identifies cause: grower quality or care quality opportunities. Works with management to determine disposition of said merchandise
  • Demonstrates knowledge of merchandise being sold with every customer interaction to have a positive impact on sales performance. Self-educates to continue growing knowledge and skill
  • Recommends tropical houseplant care package: fertilizer, moss, systemic insect/disease control
  • Knows on-hand inventory, stock overages and shortages, and notes customer requests for future buys.
  • Participates in purchasing with management to ensure a supply that meets business and customer demand/requests. Compares pricing across vendors to drive profitability
  • Stays in tune with industry trends and standards
  • Actively seeks potential new vendors
  • Forges positive relationship with tropical houseplant vendors to ensure best selections are received
  • Timely resolves merchandise-receiving errors and damages for proper credit
  • Merchandises tropical houseplants for ease of shop ability, keeps like items grouped together, and rotates merchandise as sell through occurs
  • Creates and places marketing to ensure that is educational to customer and helps drive positive sales
  • Identifies insects and disease and timely executes remediation to prevent spread and future occurrences
  • Maintains tropical houseplant Preventive Care Log, Watering Log and Fertilization Log

Required Experience: 

  • Plant care experience: 1-2 year
  • Good leadership skills
